Charitable Giving

Any time donors make a choice to give, they more than likely ask themselves three fundamental questions:

WHY SHOULD I GIVE . . . .

"A noble man plants a seed for a tree that will give shade to people he may never meet" . . . . David Trueblood

Giving Matters . . . . all gifts, no matter the amount, are important. Giving demonstrates a benevolent attitude and spirit to give back . . . to strengthen and sustain . . . to enhance and encourage . . . to foster and insure . . .

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give" . . . . Winston Churchill

Since 1926, philanthropy has played a vital role in advancing higher education and lifelong learning at MCC. Each donor’s act of generosity over this span of time began with a benevolent attitude and the commitment to give back. . . either right at that time, or through the decision to do planned charitable giving which provided a gift at some future point.

Tour the campus of nine buildings, look at the course catalog to see the variety of curriculums available, visit the Esther Trantow Dobbie Advanced Studies Center, pursue an educational opportunity offered through the Center for Enterprise’s Hormel Business and Technology Center, sign up for an on-line or distance learning course, cheer on one of the men’s basketball, baseball, golf, or women’s basketball, volleyball, or softball teams, attend a college play, music concert, or spring graduation. Be apprised of future campus facility and academic plans. Witness the excellence, success and pride that is the legacy of MCC, and actively participate in shaping the future.

Without a heritage, every generation starts over. The vitality and growth of McCook Community College and our area communities continues to require constant focus. Therefore, we are all challenged to become the advocates of Providing Opportunity . . .Unlocking Potential . . . and Investing in the Future. These are the cornerstones of giving back . . . . . .and our Foundation’s mission of support to MCC.

When Should I Give . . .

Donations can be ongoing, periodic, or a one-time event, and are also a meaningful way to honor someone special in one’s life, either while living, or at the end of life as a memorial. Gifts can be immediate, delayed, or given as an “endowment” providing a perpetual resource insuring income for years to come. The decision to donate can be affected by several fluctuating factors such as: economic stability; changing tax laws; a desire and strategic plan to transfer wealth; and the short, long-term, and cyclical needs of any charitable organization.

Carefully planning charitable gifts, including annual donations by December 31, carries the two-fold benefit of the personal satisfaction of giving back, while receiving favorable tax considerations. A variety of planned giving instruments are available that make it possible for an individual or family to secure their personal financial needs while, at the same time, providing gifts to charitable organizations. Such planned charitable giving enables non-profit organizations to do short and long-range planning with the knowledge and realities of financial security.

The Foundation invites you to review the giving categories outlined below, and contemplate how you can sponsor individual students. and support quality, affordable lifelong learning opportunities provided by MCC. It is a matter of choice . . .give the gift of education, continue the legacy of MCC, and invest in the future.

How Do I Give . . .

Please keep in mind that gifts may be given at any time as a one-time donation, periodically, or at some future date. Donors should indicate whether the gift is to be "restricted" to a specific use and/or time frame, or "unrestricted/unspecified", whereby the Foundation Board will then decide how to allocate monies, over time, for student financial aid, campus facilities, enhancements, programs and activities.
